We're Hiring
We are looking to hire a new analyst here at Union Square Ventures.
The analyst position at Union Square Ventures is a two year rotational assignment and a pre-MBA role. We hope that after working with us, that person would move to one of our portfolio companies or pursue an advanced degree. The primary responsibility of the Analyst at Union Square Ventures is to help us manage the day to day activities of the firm including:
- Deal Structure Analysis
- Due Diligence
- Research/Market Awareness
- Quarterly and Annual Reporting
We put together a set of requirements that an ideal candidate would have:
- Strong analytical / quant skills.
- Excel wizard.
- Strong internet technology experience, prior programming experience a plus.
- Net-native: deep understanding of Internet origins, trends, and solutions. Strong online presence a plus.
- Strong personal skills, great oral communications and writing.
- Work experience in either investment or internet-related field is a plus but is not required to be considered for the position.
We have hired for this position once before by posting the job listing on our blog and accepting submissions via comments on the blog post. That process worked out well for us, so we are using the same process this time around.
If you are interested in this position, please comment on this post with your name, email address, and a link to your web presence. Web presence could by anything accessible via a URL: it could be a blog, a social networking profile, a portfolio, a company, a social bookmarking archive... it is whatever you think best represents who you are online. Once we build up a good set of comments, we will start contacting people to determine next steps.
If you're in the market for a job, but you don't feel like this role is a good fit for you, we encourage you to look at our portfolio companies' job openings.

I just did a rigorous 6 months of analysis for France Telecom's R&D lab covering channel and product strategy.
I'm stronger on the qualitative / strategic, less so on the numbers. Seee my portfolio pages for a great showpiece on the automotive EDI to XML fiasco and brand monitoring sectors.

I've learned a lot from Fred Wilson over the last 18 months...the most important lesson being that there is so much in life and technology that I don't know.
Getting over the ego trip of being CEO at a web startup helped me realize that this inevitably persistent lack of knowledge is really the most exciting thing I've ever encountered.
P.S. AMAZING talent pool here...you can tell because most are using Tumblr ;-)

I currently work for a regionally focused venture capital firm and have always been impressed with USV as your team is on the cutting edge of web2.0. I love that your site is a blog and thought it was great when you found a replacement for Charlie through a post. I also enjoy following many of your investments: wesabe (checked out and have suggest to people though I currently use mvelopes, a local Utah company), twitter (use), tumblr (in the process), adaptiveblue (use), oddcast (checked out many times), Etsy (checked out many times), etc.

Hey guys, I'd be remiss to say I have a huge online presence, but have extensive background in why it matters what kind of presence you have, depending on what you are trying to achieve. I'll give some bookmarks though.
To be truthful it's no representation of my understanding of online media and where the world is going, simply a small amalgamation of markers where I pop up on the grid.
I want to explore the world of start-ups, investments, and how to create wealth - for the group rather than the individual.

I'm a stay-home-dad taking a break from technology employment for a while, but was impressed with all the various content signatures from the 'candidates' - Twitter, Facebook, Tumbler, Flickr, Linkedin, Blogger, Del.licio.us. Hard to determine if this method is more efficient than reviewing a 2 page resume on high quality water-marked paper sent to your office with a U.S. Postal stamp.
Needless to say, I'll continue to use your portfolio companies products when I can.
Good luck!

I wanted to apologize for the previous post in my name, as it was put up by a friend who thought this would be a great thing for me. If I were to write the post, it would go like this:
USV Team,
If you really wanted to bring this thing into the 21st century, you should've had an "American's Next Top Venture Capitalist" show on Bravo. It would've had two subplots. Hiring a new Analyst. As well as a competition between startups looking for funding. The potential analysts would be judged based on various competitions revolving around picking who will get the $. You get The Donald and Heidi to co-judge a few episodes. The show would obviously be streaming online simultaneously, with other camera angles, and behind the scenes stuff. You could have internet users have 1/x of the vote by voting online. They could also submit questions, challenges, etc. Obviously they'd all be shacked up in a house/loft around the Union Sq Area. Anyway, I'm down to help develop it. Until then, I would like to submit my application myself. Apologize for the repetition:

Hi there,
I will have my MBA in Entrepreneurship this May and am incredibly interested in venture capital, analyzing new ventures and advising entrepreneurs. I have focused my coursework on small business strategy, and unfortunately I've spend the last couple months working much harder on my resume (and class projects) than on my web presence.
